Getting Started with Meshtastic
NodakMesh supports both Meshtastic and MeshCore. Here's how to get set up with Meshtastic.
1
Get a Compatible Device
Meshtastic runs on the same hardware as MeshCore. For US/North Dakota: Make sure to get the 915 MHz version.
2
Flash Meshtastic Firmware
The easiest way to flash Meshtastic is using the web flasher:
- a Go to flasher.meshtastic.org in Chrome or Edge
- b Connect your device via USB
- c Select your device type from the dropdown
- d Click "Flash" and wait for completion
3
Download the App
Get the official Meshtastic app for your device:
Desktop apps and Python CLI are also available at meshtastic.org/downloads
4
Configure Your Device
Connect via Bluetooth and configure these settings:
Recommended Settings
Region: US
Modem Preset: Long Fast
Channel: Default (LongFast)
Hop Limit: 3
The default "LongFast" channel is used by most Meshtastic users and is a good starting point.
You're Connected!
Your Meshtastic device is now ready to communicate with other Meshtastic nodes. Check the mesh map to see nearby nodes.
